Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship 2023
A government fellowship known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Program is given to eligible Scheduled Caste SC and Scheduled Tribes ST applicants ST. Recently, the fellowship was split into two components, the National Fellowship for SC Students and the National Fellowship for ST Students Higher Education. The National Fellowship for ST students is implemented and sponsored by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, whereas the National Fellowship for SC students is created and supported by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
The SC and ST students are given financial support under both of these fellowships formerly known as the Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship to pursue higher education such as an M.Phil and a PHD degree in the disciplines of Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Engineering & Technology. Every year, 2,000 SC and 750 ST individuals get the chance to apply for the erstwhile Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship which comes with a monthly salary of up to INR 35,000.

The Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship 2023 RGNF is available to all SC and ST applicants who want to pursue advanced degrees including full time, regular M.Phil. and doctoral degrees in the humanities, social sciences, engineering and technology.
Benefits for Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship 2023
The benefits for this fellowship is given below:
Fellowship Amount
- For the first two years, individuals who are accepted as JRFs Junior Research Fellows are awarded a fellowship of Rs 25,000 per month for ST students and Rs 31,000 per month for SC students.
- The applicants upgraded to SRF Senior Research Fellow status get a fellowship amount of Rs 28,000 per month for ST students and Rs 35,000 per month for the next three years for SC students.
- Contingency grant for Humanities and Social Sciences:
- For the first two years a sum of Rs 10,000 every year
- A yearly payment of Rs 20,500 for the remaining term
- Contingency grant for Science, Engineering & Technology:
- The first two years will cost Rs 12,000 per year.
- For the following three years Rs 25,000 annually.
- Escorts/Reader assistance to physically & visually challenged candidates:
- Each month Rs 2,000.
- HRA House Rent Allowance:
- According to university, institution and college policies
Eligibility Criteria
The Eligibility Criteria for this fellowship is given below:
Candidates must fall within the SC and ST categories in order to be eligible for these fellowships.
- Both fellowships require that the applicants hold a postgraduate degree in order to be considered.
- The candidates must be enrolled as regular students in full time M.Phil or PHD programs in a university, institution or college that has been approved by UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act or the ICAR.
- The fellowships that were originally awarded under the name Rajiv Gandhi Fellowship are also open to individuals who identify as transgender.
